Ami is sold

I no longer own a Citroen Ami..

Had one since 1998, four different cars altogether.. well time to move on.

I will leave this blog up and running for now, but will probably close it later.

Amicalement,

Juuso

Temporary solution – Ami has FM!

The downside of having a rare factory mounted Radioen radio, is the fact that it has no FM.. here is my solution.. I mounted a mini-size 1970 blaupunt radio and a nice ball shaped speaker from same year.. Now can has music! 😀

(sorry for the bad quality photo)

Door panel refitting..

The drivers door front panel has now been repaired.. (summer 2010)

Just testfitting – Meko additional beams..

Radioen getting some professional care.

To do list updated, new version..

Some new things added to my list and some things knocked of the same list..

Missing bits and pieces:

  • Driver door window frame with 3 lines (current frame is from an older Ami) Got a new one, which is better, but needs to be refitted/adjusted to be perfect.
  • New double slides for all 4 side windows (the original ones have rusted)
  • Driver door window joint (outside-internal) Got it, but haven’t replaced it just yet.
  • Right front doors window aluminum handle/lock
  • Winter mask for -67 model
  • Rear light plastic protection panel inside the trunk (black) (I have 1:1 cardboard model for making one, just need to find right kind of material) Done, just need to be finalized
  • Driver door arm rest
  • Set of clips that secure the door panel frame to the door. – These might not be needed, will see when I start working on the driver door. In worst case I need to replace the entire door as the current door is from an older model..
  • Used good condition front light (right side is dimmed, seems like Ami 8 model is what I need..) Got brand new lights for both side with new fitting frames and adjustment cables.. haven’t fitted them yet, will fit them when needed, current ones work good and passed the MOT, so no need to replace them
  • Rear view mirror black -I found an identical grey one, could always paint it black.
  • Rear piece of roof chrome lining (could try fixing the current one..) Update: Might replace the entire roof as I have found a good used Ami roof for a decent price.
  • Start cable with silver (D) (-67 model) Got it and fitted it.. needs to be adjusted..
  • Counter pieces which attaches the “manivelle” to the front fender Got it but I need the special size wing nut that holds it in place..
  • New end piece for right rear wing – Got it and it has been replaced, need to weld an extra piece to the inside, no hurry with this..
  • Tank neck joint (red or 2cv grey)
  • Lockable tank cap Got one, but looking for a better one, got a Marchal one which is nicer..
  • New ingnition cables and spark plugs – OK, installed and in use
  • New rubber to restore the wind shield wipers – OK, even got some extra ones
  • Left floor panel and sills for both sides, under constructions – got the new panels – OK, rust repairs done, also have new floor panels and sills, if I want to do a full restoration later
  • Ignition lock and lock cylinders (got the ignition lock, need to find new lock cylinders + keys) – Got the parts, need to do the work still.. need to get a part made to mount the ignition lock.. also need to replace the lock cylinders on the door and trunk
  • New rubber joints to replace some cracked ones.. (Driver door’s lock + sliding window, rear lights..)
  • New headliner material from ebay.com – might not be needed if I replace the entire roof

And below is the new list derived from above + many new things:

  • Putting the restored rims / tires back on
  • Lowering the car some = adjusting ride height
  • Continental-Edison Radioën repair/cleaning
  • Jaeger clock repair/replacement – bought a new clock  and it is in use, much better than the old one that was slow.. this one is a little fast, but it keeps me from being late.. 😀 I like it.
  • Motor panels paintwork touch-up work
  • New heater tubes installation
  • New hood cover isolation installation
  • Installing new starter cable/knob – maybe later, got the piece
  • Installing new rear view mirror and removing the old one
  • Replacing all side window double-slide joints – done.
  • Driver’s door panel repairs
  • Right side rear wing dent repair
  • Installing accessories (Galey-Cornex rear bumber tubulure, windshield cap, new side mirrors, dasboard rack,  2nd radio  to have FM…)
  • Dashboard blinker indicators (measurements, building electronics, installing) (2 hours + help needed)
  • Sunroof project?? + new headliner (n days + $$ + help – probably not doing this)
  • Installing new headliner, maybe it the future if I change the roof.
  • Rust repairs (floor/sills (have new panels, but no need to change them as I have repaired the original panels..), rear internal wings, minor things on the doors) (1 day + help needed)
  • New battery cables Just replaced the earth (-) cable
  • Changing ignition cables + plugs +  123 ignition
  • Cleaning the vinyl seats and repairing 2 small holes
  • Installing new license plates (1 hour)
  • Replacing drive shaft boot covers (? hours) – replaced the outer ones, but might have to look at these again, didn’t have all the necessary new parts.. Last time I checked they were still ok, but I bought the pieces just in case.
  • Replacing the rear blinker covers
  • Replacing the headlights + adjustment cables – current ones are OK, no need for this now
  • New bumbers.. well, maybe some day if I run into something (got new bumber for both rear and front)

pneus neufs

Real whitewall tires in 125×15 with Michelin X pattern.. had to try, so far I am satisfied.. Also added some bling bling.. put on the extra Citroen hubcaps.

Since I took this photo I have switched back to the original front grill..

Restoration work under the hood..

The bolts on the front silencer that attach it to the frame had come loose and disappeared so I had to put in some new ones to keep the exhaust line from moving and touching the driver side front wheel… This required quite a bit of dis-assembly of the body panels and one thing let to another.. Here’s the tofs:

50% of Finnish ami 6 berlines?

There are probably only eight running ami 6 berlines in Finland, so this is a very rare view.. enjoy.
